xTex 161 Major release / 19 Apr 2016

Supported Platforms: Windows 10 / 8.1 / 7

New features:

  • Material management
xTex now comes with an internal solution for material management. Folders (network or local) can be defined as material storage and will then be scanned by xTex for materials and images. These can then be easily accessed/searched/filtered from within the interface.
  • 3D realtime preview
We implemented a 3D material preview in addition to the 2D tiling preview. Materials are fully tweakable and can be displayed on different geometries or environments.
  • Normal map adjustments
Normal map details can be tweaked in a separate window now (with 3D preview). This applies both for normally captured materials and single images.
  • Roughness map
Roughness can be captured as 6th texture type in xTex.
  • Brightness adjustments
As specular maps need to turn out differently for different renderers and shaders we added a brightness parameter to the Adjustments (that can also be used for Color and Alpha maps).
  • Predefined adjustments
All color adjustments can now be defined in presets (in the user preferences). Thus users can tweak the capture output in an easy and sustainable way.
  • Support for Nikon D810
Nikon D810 (the successor of the D800) is now fully supported in xTex.

Enhancements:

  • Auto tiling/Synthesis: The result is not anymore dependent on the selected texture. All (relevant) textures are taken into account.
  • Auto tiling lock: x/y axis can now be locked for Auto Tiling. This is helpful for materials that must be seamless in only one direction (e.g. shoelaces).
  • Auto tiling size: The original size of the selection can now be preserved for the tiling result.
  • Normal map Tiling/Synthesis: Patch seams are now calculated with a new algorithm and virtually invisible.
  • Nikkor 60mm and 105mm micro lens are now supported together with D800/D810 camera models. Thus a capture resolution up to 2000dpi is possible.
  • Color correction: Improved calculation for diffuse and specular colors.
  • Color profile: sRGB profiles can be optionally attached to the material textures.
  • Camera settings: All relevant camera parameters are now automatically controlled by the software.
  • Focus calibration: A new menu item to set the camera autofocus. No need anymore to touch the camera. As a side effect capturing is more stable now (autofocus is automatically turned off during capturing).
  • The smoothing algorithm has been improved for diffuse and specular maps to work better with multicolor materials.
  • Shader roughness is now set automatically for the supported softwares.
  • Alpha map smoothing: Alpha maps can now be smoothed like any other texture.

Bugfixes:

  • A second instance of xTex can now be openend without material conflicts.
  • Preview crop selection can be rotated now with effect on the captured material.
  • Material size/resolution is calculated accurately after tiling/synthesis.
  • Materials with identical names can be opened at the same time.

xTex 152Major release / 18 Aug 2015

Supported Platforms: Windows 8.1 / 7

New features:

  • 64-bit support
Almost all program modules are now running on 64-bit. This improves stability a lot when users are dealing with large textures or using Auto tiling and Synthesis.
  • Support for Autodesk VRED 2016 version
xTex now supports version 2016 of the 3D realtime rendering software Autodesk VRED. Both UV and Triplanar mapping types are addressed properly for Plastic, Reflective Plastic and Phong shaders. Support for version 2015 remains unaffected.
  • Support for Clo 3D Modelist
Thanks to our friends at Clo Virtual Fashion xTex materials can now easily be imported to Clo 3D modelist software.
  • Hardware check
A new program is available in the Help menu to provide a remote check routine for the xTex hardware. The program captures images and zips them along with calibration data and logging information. The zip file is small and can easily be sent via email to Vizoo support for review.

Enhancements:

  • Auto tiling: Application of auto tiling is a lot faster now.
  • Crop tool: Rotation and constraint scaling can now be used on the crop selection.
  • Color calibration: Added support for IT8.7 charts (288 colors). Calibration is much faster now due to switching from lut-profiles to icc. Another benefit is that it is no longer necessary to capture white balance because color correction is now directly calculated from the camera raw data.
  • Enhanced support for Vred shaders: The software now sends correct size information to Triplanar materials.
  • Flipped images: Textures are flipped 180 degrees to reflect the direction they were put on the xTex capturing surface.
  • Supported lenses: 2 new lenses have been added for the Nikon D800: Nikkor AF-S 35mm 1:1,8G ED and Nikkor AF 35mm 2,0D
  • Normal maps: Direction has been changed to meet the standard.

Bugfixes:

  • Blender connection: Works also for materials w/o Alpha map now
  • Improved Smoothing to overcome problems with visible texture seams.

xTex 151Major release / 8 Apr 2015

Supported Platforms: Windows 8.1 / 7

New features:

  • Texture synthesis (Automatic tiling)
Texture synthesis is a completely new tool to create seamless materials. The user selects the input texture from the set of textures and the desired output size. The software calculates an entirely new texture from the given information. The result can be applied to all textures of the material.
  • Single image support
It is now possible to load image files that have not been captured with the xTex device.
  • Smoothing on Color, Specular and Displacement maps
Like for Normal maps smoothing is now also available for the above mentioned textures.

Enhancements:

  • 16-bit workflow
  • Combined Color/Alpha texture output (tif)
  • Levels adjustments added (replacing Brightness/Contrast)
  • Correct dpi information encoded in texture files
  • Shader color values can be set from xTex (Vred, Blender)
  • Enhanced support for Vred shaders (Triplanar)
  • Improved Displacement map quality
  • Improved distortion control for all textures
  • Adjustments now updating automatically in Tiling preview window
  • Some bits and pieces have been added to the UI.
Customers will notice that more information is now displayed on the status bar.
  • Licensing/Activation now possible with offline method

Bugfixes:

  • Blender connection: Fixed wrong material path issue
  • User interface: Fixed some misbehaviours of slider elements.

It is now possible to output 16-bit tif textures.
  • Linear color mode
Color and Specular textures can now optionally be captured in linear color mode. The funtionality to capture in sRGB mode keeps untouched.

Enhancements:

  • Automated workflow for chart based color correction
  • Added automatic camera calibration for every material shot
  • Inspection light functionality added (Focus calibration)
  • Implemented global UV scaling factor for 3D application
Bugfixes:
  • Automatic tiling: fixed stability issue on large textures
  • Fixed issue with incorrect image size (black pixel border)
